Crazy how we humans function as emotional creatures. If I might add, the term 'crazy' here is used with absolute condescension and cynicism. If we were to adopt an extremist viewpoint, wouldn't you be inclined to agree that emotions weigh down on the success of mankind as the greatest intellectual beings to roam the face of this planet. We know not for sure the extent to which animals communication or convey their feelings but certainly, in some ways, their beastly instincts of 'survival of the fittest' have left them drowning in their raw moments of stagnation, just waiting to be poached by humans. Imagine what we would accomplish if emotions weren't there in our way.
If I had you going for a second, you might want to reconsider your philosophy of life.
Of course we need to feel above thinking. It drives our morality and gives us a sense of direction. Life isn't all about the pursuit of advancements. In this rat race, we are mutually dependent and emotions form the key foundation for us to move along as one unit. But above all, I reckon that emotions are of paramount importance to our lives because they inject fun and excitement into our otherwise mundane routines.
We are all pretty familiar with the phenomenon that comes with being in a crowd. Hanging out in large cliques leaves a larger propensity for individuals to engage in wild actions or to act without thinking rationally as opposed to being alone. You wouldn't shout at a random stranger out of jest if you were walking the streets alone but the situation changes when your presence amalgamates with those of several others. You blend in so such that your act of ridicule stems from the herd and not you, leaving you less embarrassed than you should be.
Surprises (the good kinds) leaves our heart palpitating for the right reasons and if we had no emotions, our life would be as predictable as the flow of the alphabet. When things don't go right and others end up wrong, we find ourselves in a moment of frenzy in the case of a fiasco but other times, we enjoy a moment of exhilaration and adrenaline pumping through our veins. That's akin to walking along a smooth, straight plain when you suddenly fall through a pit only to land on a bouncing castle shooting you back up higher than you were before.
More than that, emotions help us be happy. It is true that they sometimes stand in our way of making decision but it is also not entirely false to say that they do play a part in helping us make logical and wise decisions. We may feel sad and angry and frustrated but these negative emotions are a small price to pay for the concept of feeling happy.
And the ultimate bliss comes from seeing that one person you wish would always be happy, be happy, even if it comes at the expense of yours. Though ironic as it sounds, it is the kind of happiness that does not manifest as a grin on your face, but a solemn pulsation in your heart; and you know you are right where you belong.
Even if it makes no sense at all, being happy is to see you be happy even when I'm not.
